How Do Workers’ Compensation Lost Wages Work?

Permanent Total Disability benefits are a form of payment for wages you’ve lost when you can’t work because of a workplace injury.

They pay two-thirds of your average wages from before your injury, up to a limit set by the state. Your checks come weekly.

In Louisiana, lost wages benefits are also called indemnity benefits. These are other types of indemnity benefits:

• Temporary Total Disability (TTD): When you can’t work for a limited period of time, you’ll receive payments until you can return to work.
• Permanent Partial Disability (PPD): You may be able to work, but you’ll receive payment to compensate for the loss of use of a particular part of your body or serious disfigurement.
• Supplemental Earnings Benefits (SEB): These payments help make up for a drop in income when you can return to work, but your injury leaves you earning less than before.

Supplemental Earnings Benefits (SEB) can last up to 10 years in Louisiana. The length of Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) benefits depends on which body part you injured and the severity level of the injury.

Permanent Total Disability (PTD) can last longer than 10 years.
