Since Corey began practicing in 2005, the workers’ compensation laws have changed significantly. There are more changes coming as insurance companies put more emphasis on value-based care. The Louisiana Medical Treatment Guidelines are constantly being revised and updated similar to the approach that has been taken many other states. These guidelines are widely regarded as being unfair to workers.
Insurance companies and self-insured businesses are pushing for compensation guidelines to be revised to take “advances in modern medicine” into account.
In real terms, this means that companies are looking for ways to pay less compensation for serious injuries, even though many who suffer from these injuries do not make a full recovery and are unable to return to work.
Because of these changes, it is vital that workers who are looking to make a compensation claim find a workers compensation lawyer who is well-versed with the current laws and who understands changes that may be coming so that they can prepare the strongest possible claim.
Corey M. Fitzpatrick has been practicing law since 2005 and remains as committed to his clients today as he was the day that he took on his first case. His desire to provide fair and reasonable representation and to work not just for his clients but also to support other law firms in the area with his expertise is something that we feel privileged to be able to support.
New Orleans residents are blessed to have access to so many top lawyers in different fields. From family law to workers’ compensation, there are legal experts that can provide attentive, clear and honest representation for any case and we are proud to be a part of that.
We wish to thank the New Orleans legal community for their part in helping one of our lawyers be nominated onto the Top Lawyers list on Workers’ Compensation in the November 2019 issue of New Orleans Magazine.
“Since I started practicing in 2005, there have been monumental changes to the workers’ compensation laws that make it difficult for injured workers and general practitioners to navigate claims. We have adapted to ensure that we provide the most effective representation possible in this area of law. I’ve always made myself available to speak with lawyers in other practice areas who have questions, and in many instances, I have stepped in to help clients of other lawyers while maintaining the relationships between these clients and the lawyers who referred them,” says Fitzpatrick.
We look forward to serving the community for many years to come and hope that we will continue to see Mr. Fitzpatrick, and others from our team, on the list in future years.
Time is of the essence when it comes to making claims for workers’ compensation. The best time to start thinking about a claim is immediately after the incident occurs. Keep copies of receipts or bills for any medical care that you receive. Document the accident and make sure that there is an accident report filed with your employer. Limit your discussion of the accident until you have sought legal advice, and make a note of any impact that it has on your quality of life. If you are unable to work or must take on reduced duties, make a note of that. If the incident stops you from being able to take your kids to school or to engage in your hobbies, that is worthy of noting down also.
Workers’ compensation laws exist to help you be ‘made whole’ after an accident.
